Tamiya Underground is the next feature in our list of local hobby shops in Malaysia.
Tamiya Underground opened its doors for business in 2006 at the 1-Utama shopping complex, New Wing, Bandar Utama. The TAMIYA brand has had a long and outstanding reputation as a leading plastic kit manufacturer and STARGEK (M) SDN BHD belongs to a list of reputable regional distributors for that brand.
Originally designed with the concept of a shopping outlet in a subway, Tamiya Underground or TU stocks the latest goods in all things Tamiya, making this the place to quench any TAMIYA thirst that you may have. With its indoor 4WD track for the young at heart and a RC racing car track just next to the outlet, weekends are occasionally busy and noisy with the buzz of fast cars.
TU keeps a very healthy stock of Tamiya kits including the latest releases.TU has a special section to cater for the RC car kit fans as well. Arranged neatly according to the category, the store is well lit and airy with ample display cases showcasing works of modellers and also feature pieces. Paint and Tamiya accessories are well stocked and they do bring in the TAMIYA modelling magazines occasionally. The proprietor, Mr Ong Chee Yong manages TU together with Ms Adelyn Ho with the help of David Chong, Azahar and Rosaidi. A branch, TAMIYA HIDEOUT, is now opened at BSC, Bangsar to cater for hobbyist in that section of KL.
Regretablle to note that Tamiya Underground closed in 2020 but the vendor still runs an online service.
